Kurt A. Kegel

Kurt has been representing clients in litigation and family law matters for more than twenty years. He has been recognized in “The Best Lawyers in America” in the area of family law, and selected by his peers every year since 2005 to be included in the list of Georgia Super Lawyers. Kurt has served at every executive level of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, including a term as the Chair of the Section from 2007-2008. Kurt has also held every leadership position of the Family Law Section of the Atlanta Bar Association, culminating in a term as the Chair of the Section from 2005-2006.
Kurt is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, where he has served as Treasurer and currently serves as Secretary. He is a Master in of the Charles Longstreet Weltner Family Law Inn of Court, and a member of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and a Charter Lifetime Fellow of the Atlanta Bar Foundation.
Before forming Kegel McBurney LLC in 2012, Kurt was a shareholder at the Atlanta law firm of Davis, Matthews, & Quigley, P.C., where he worked for nearly fifteen years. In addition, he practiced family law in Atlanta at the Law Office of Kurt Kegel, P.C., and at the law firm of Padgett & Kegel, P.C. in Augusta. Prior to his work in private practice, Kurt served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Conasauga Judicial Circuit and then with the Atlanta Judicial Circuit until 1995.
Kurt is admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court, Georgia Court of Appeals, Federal District Court of the Northern and Southern Districts of Georgia. Kurt received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia in 1988. He received his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, Georgia in 1991. Kurt was raised in Roswell, Georgia, and is married to Nancy Freeland Kegel. They have two daughters and one son.
